Sailing in Southern Brittany a few weeks ago, my crew (of one) went down to put the kettle on and frantically appeared at the companionway to tell me there was water everywhere around the galley area. I went below to find it sloshing around and quickly using my 'taste test' was relieved to discover it was at least fresh water.
Turned off the water pump and got it all out, eventually discovering that the cold water feed pipe from the pump had been just resting lightly across the corner of the gearbox where it had eventually, after probably 10 years, worn through and dumped most of the contents of one water tank.
I cut the holed pipe and put in a straight connector as a temporary fix re-routing the pipe, calmed my crew and later replaced it...
