A good deck filler?

I need to replace the deck water filler and will probably replace the fuel one in the near future. There is a bewildering array with no consumer reviews. Do you have a type that you can recommend that has stood the test of time? That is - it doesn't jam and, in the case of the fuel filler, doesn't have hidden reservoirs of water. It's for 38 mm ID hose.

Not sure what make the fuel deck filler is on my Sadler 25, but it is I think the original, is easy to use, doesn’t hide water in it and fits a 38 mm pipe.
Am going down to the boat tomorrow so will see if there is a maker's name on it.

Hi Poey50

Hope these help, the text that is difficult to read says ‘made in Sweden’

Thank you for taking the trouble. I don't see anything the same after a Google trawl but its interesting that those recessed handles have stood the test of time. There are similar offerings but I think I'd prefer a cap that will take a winch handle (but not with a plastic insert).

Look on ebay and several listed, marked either water of fuel. I have just replaced the 'O' ring on both my fillers with one size larger cross section, they certainly don't leak now, aluminium type, circa 1979.

I think mine is an Osculati, I bought it from ASAP Supplies more than 20 years ago and it has given no trouble. Earlier this year I fitted a new o-ring as the original was getting a bit chewed up.

My boat is 25 years old, and I have no reason to believe these are not original. It was more convenient to photograph one of the water ones, but the diesel one is just the same, and I have never had any bother with them. Don't know the hose diameter.

On the Moody, the original deck fillers that are still there after 25 years are of the sort where the cap covers the fitting entirely... Not sure if that really helps with keeping water out (but I imagine it does when a wave dumps directly down onto the deck or if anyone should accidentally pressure wash over the cap) but if I ever had to add another deck fitting I would go for the same style.

Easier to show a picture than to describe. Not the Moody one but a similar style picture from the internet.

It doesn't explain why most of the deck filler fittings that show up with an online search are the other variety where the cap doesn't cover the fitting entirely but sits down inside the deck part.

The style whereby the whole fitting is covered by the cap looks to be available with winch handle style keyway..

Sorry it doesn't answer your question about robustness and waterproofing qualities though.

When Plastimo were still in existence they marketed a plastic replacement for the aluminium lid, opened and closed by winch handle. They may still be around from someone else?

I read somewhere that types with plastic inserts can be trouble. I've no direct experience though.
