I currently use the Helford Ferry as taxi to Musketeer's mooring. Yesterday I had to wait until the tide had risen a bit before the ferry would run - so it was a bit crowded. Anyway we all settled in and as the ferryman prepared to loose the mooring and we all shuffled up the girl opposite me knocked her rucksack over so it landed on the throttle. The ferry surged forward until hard aground! I moved the offending rucksack and the ferry man grabbed the throttle, then was able to pull the ferry off the sand/mud. No harm done but we all had a good laugh and the ferry man something to talk about in the pub!

If you think that's funny you really need to think a bit harder. Controls should be guarded to stop that happening. Not too hard to imagine someone being chewed up by the prop of an out of control boat, is it?

I’m not how my throttle could be guarded. I’ve only stumbled onto it occasionally, including once in the rough water when entering Dover West.
