Am I being naive or something but I always wave at boats passing I get a reply sometimes but more times than not get ignored
Ive noticed in certain areas people are more friendly in Bristol for example nearly everybody gives a friendly wave back.
Now were on the south coast ive noticed most people do nothing when I wave is this the result of such large numbers of boaters doing there own thing.opinions please

I know what you mean, being used to boating in Scotland where there is a lot move waving...hmm, but wafting your arms about helps keep you warm up there!

I tend to just keep waving 'till they feel obliged to wave back! Having said that a lot of people still wave back or at least give you a nod and a smile. I always come home happier if people wave back!

Yep culture difference! I seldom get a "no wave" up here in the frozen north - the land of mists and dragons. Ya never Know when you are going to need help fighting off a sea-monster, or need guiding out of a fog that eats your face off. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We normally wave on the Lancaster canal, however today I waved at a boat heading for as and inf ront. My wave was intended as a , give up. What the F doyou want me to do. You have parked your tuppaware boat up, bang infront of a tin crusader, which has about as much abilitiy to stop as a brick in full flight. Please just F Off!!!

Thanks for the wave did you hang back going into Southampton water
we went past that monster ship on our starboard and we were about to cross in front of it between the harbour master and it when all the sirens came on from the harbour master and he told us to keep more distance
Then he chased after us and gave us a guide to southampton water and traffic regs
we were no where near the big ship though at least a 1000m away
Was that you that came out of lymington just before us and went to the left through about 4ft of water or was that someone else

I was leaving Lymington River at the same time as you (left my berth in the Haven as you were passing the Royal Yacht Club). I did'nt cut any corners on the river (never do) . I saw the Harbour master pull you over...........I stayed well astern of the container ship...........I know that they get a bit itchy if you get too close. We intended going up to OV but in the end made for Hamble Point for lunch.
