i bought my S24 and took delivery in 2001..i,ve had it from new and trailer sail and allways have done (its never even been antifouled)..it does everything that i want and need from it..yes i would LOVE an F34 or bigger BUT it would,nt fit down the side of the house !!!!!......SO......the question is, how long have you kept your pride n joy and why ???

I heard somewhere that the average time a boat is kept in ownership is 3 years. But i defy that logic as I have kept most of mine 5 to 6 years apiece

Spent my childhood messing around in dinghies. Then got into the ratrace and years of working to pay for house, school fees etc etc.

After a corporate charter in 2001 I thought, well yes. And bought a sailyboat which I loved.

But after four years I reached the conclusion that for what I wanted I would need a mobo.

Bought a Sunseeker Portofino 31 which I sold after 18 months: an interesting learning curve, and then my current Aquastar 33 which I have had for nearly four years now.

already thinking of getting a 30+ something boat next year

reason:

had the idea to tow toys and blat about.. but realised it was invariably too cold for the kids for the toys and most sea states in the uk prohibitted the use of the binliner if I wanted to keep my boy feeling safe.

I thought the Fletcher was the answer, good seaworthy boat that can handle british waters.. swmbo got involved and wanted to overnight and do the social thing.. sold all the toys and bought the rinker and have to say, loving it.

now finding the need to take more guests out and the larger boat is a devil to handle in the wind at berth... not had a mishap yet but enviously look on at those boats with twin props and bow/stern thrusters and think life could be so much easier with them.

time to have a chat with the bank manager come this time next year

Had my Hardy since Oct 2009... & still feels a bit of a novelty. Plan to keep her a while solely for financial reasons, love her to bits but a Corvette 320 would give us the space we really want... or even better a Hardy 36... but its heads down for survival first off, profits & fun later...

Wish it weren't true, but sadly.....

We will have had Cygnus 10 years in September, this year being her 60th. birthday. She's 30 foot and we would love to upgrade to nearer 40 foot with a bit more beam, but alas, not to be just yet. It brasses me off because I'm a year older than the boat!

Well Steve, we are very similar, had my S24 since new back in 1999. I still love the boat which is a good all rounder for the south coast. We use her for cruising and diving, but mainly cruising which is just perfect for that. It has always been kept in a marina, so many coats of antifouling compared to yours.

I would like to upgrade and I have been thinking about that for years, I like the S28 or Nimbus boats, but the S24 just seems to tick most boxes from cost to being comfortable cruiser.

Previous boat to this which was a Gobbi 27 Sport I have kept it for just a bit less to 14 years. She was a 1994 construction.
Purchased only a couple months old in September 1994, and kept till July 2008.
I think the main reason I kept so long was because it had good speed, super and reliable twin 200hp diesel engines, unbeleivable cockpit deck for a boat measuring over all just a whisker over thirty feet, and this not penalizing so much the interior which still could sleep five in comfort in two areas (midship and convertible Vee shaped), had a seperate shower head, and a galley.

This one had it since July 08 and still not thinking of selling as it fits the bill very well.

Had an 1994 S240, then a 2001 S24.
The S28 was bought in 2006.
It's been to a few places, but also works well just buzzing around the Solent, and getting us back over Chichester bar in most sensible (and some not quite so sensible) conditions.

An SC35 would be nice. But we would have to lose one kidney per family member plus the cat to pay for it, so maybe a secondhand hand S28 Mark II or late model S29 is more realistic as a next purchase.

Still on our first boat, a 2003 Sealine S23 which we have owned since the back end of 2008. It ticks all the boxes for us, is cheap to run, maintain and moor and still enables us to go away aboard for a couple of weeks at a time. Have just got back from a two weeks cruise to the Broads and loved every minute. If work wasnt calling i could have easily managed another two weeks comfortably.

Had our T34 for 10 years this coming September. Signed up for it just before the twin towers were struck. We've been delighted with it, and does all we want from a boat, and have no plans to change.

Previously, a Targa 27 for 4 years. Bought from the Southern Fried Chicken man, you may have seen on the telly last week!

Ist boat, Monterey 218 1 season then upagraded to what we have now, a Monterey 250. Looking to upgrade again either next year or one after depending on finances of course. Love what we have but just a natural progression I guess and desire for more space and comfort.

1st boat - a four-and-a-bit metre trailer boat bought in 2003 and sold in 2005.
2nd boat - a 33 footer launched new in 2006 and sold, er, well today as it happens!
3rd boat - another trailer boat, a 16 footer. Bought in 2007 and sold last summer.
4th boat? Let's get the proceeds from boat #3 in me piggy bank first then we'll have a stocktake. You can't help looking at what's for sale though ;-) A 36' fly would fit the bill nicely.

We've owned our S24 since October (first boat) last year but being anchored next to an S28 for 2 days this weekend has already started the 'thinking about upgrading process!'

It will mean the other halfs Landrover will have to stay for a few more years if we do and she already has one eye on an Evoque

I'm not confident of winning the battle!
