Joshua Slocum's "Sailing Alone Around The World"

Whoever you are and whatever your interest in sailing I thoroughly recommend this fine yarn. It will (perhaps only temporarily) restore your faith in humanity and will be good for your soul.....

hi R and EVERYONE,
I have read and re-read it a few times,
last during my engine- and
-radioless circumnavigation
100 years after the 'old man'

I always find something of new interest in it,
- that book is a jewel
...and not NAUTICAL at all, no need to be a 'yachtie'
to enjoy it.

...sample: Slocum rows out an anchor and a wave turns his dinghy over.
he clings to the upside down boat ,
later writes:
...'that's when I remembered that I couldn't swim.....'

enjoy!

Re: Don\'t bother buying the book

I certainly saw copies for sale on one of the stands at SBS, but I can't remember which one. Have you tried Kelvin Hughes?

Re: Don\'t bother buying the book

I bought a copy in Falmouth from the Marine Book Shop in Arwenack in August for £1.29 which was a Penguin Popular Classic 1995 edition. Hope this helps

Re: Don\'t bother buying the book

I bought it at SBS and am reading it at present. The copy I have is published by a company in Suffolk. I'll post the details when I get home tonight.

Cheers,
AJ

PS. Sam Llewyllen's sequel to RoS is also worth reading!

There's a new bookshop in Watford. Yesterday I went for a browse in the sailing section. Noticed that not only did they have Slocum in stock, they had it in five different editions!
