Next week I hope to sail to Lowestoft or Great Yarmouth to enter the Norfolk Broads for a couple of days.

Travelling from Bradwell on the Blackwater I plan a stop somewhere in the Orwell first but then need another stop before Lowestoft. There seems to be only Aldeburgh or Southwold. Does anybody know if these places are visitor friendly or are there other choices?

Both the Ore and Southwold will be limiting in entering and leaving - but both friendly - Southwold will probably be easier.
Or try Felixstowe Ferry at the entrance of the River Deben - but you can get caught out by the Bar - but usually accessible about 3 hours either side of High Water as long as you don't have a very deep keel. But beware as a shallow patch has built up between the Haven Bouy and the first bouy - see
<A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.hasa.org.uk/Deben.htm>http://www.hasa.org.uk/Deben.htm</A> for more information. You can usually pick up a vacant mooring overnight.
Or you can moor on Halfpenny Quay overnight in Harwich Harbour if you want to leave at any state of the tide - costs £10 overnight with new showers. Or at Shotley Marina opposite.
Good luck anyway.
Good

Southwold is OK, but the tides need to be right - which ,if you are leaving from the mouth of the Orwell on the north going tide, will leave you hanging around outside for a while, or If you aim to arrive at Southwold at the right time, you will need to punch tide most of the way up from the Orwell.
What is wrong with doing it in one go from the Orwell?, we are based at shotley and had a nice trip up to lowestoft earlier this season - took about 6-7 hours or so I recall. What with waiting around for the right tides to get in and out of the rivers I'm not sure you would gain alot by adding another stop.
I would go for Shotley or Levington on the Orwell, so you are near the mouth of the river

If you haven't already got it <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.stanfords.co.uk/bookdetails/bookdetails?item_code=93044> THIS </A> is worth having

The River Alde/Ore is always nice to visit. You do not have to go up as far as Aldborough as there are various places you can lie afloat nearer Orford. The entrance is not usually particularly difficult but you do have to get it right and have the latest information See here, <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.debenentrance.com/index.htm>http://www.debenentrance.com/index.htm</A> Good sailing.

Yes, might do it in one go if conditions are ok. But still want to have a fall back plan and as I am not in a rush it would be nice to explore. I have stayed at Woolverston but not Shotley or Levington so will try one of these.
