Are u using Kerosene or Diesel...?
Kerosene burns hotter and cleaner...but I'm not sure about striving for a "Glowing red burner" - that is too hot,
and the burner will not last long if it is heated to red hot.
I agree with some of the other contributors that a properly fitted unit should keep your boat warm...(without overheating the unit). Is the flue OK...? if the outside piece is too long the exhaust will struggle to vent out properly, because it cools down too much. 6 or 8" of pipe before the terminal is enough. (All just based on my own experience,I'm not an expert!)
