A Better Oil Extraction Pump?

One pitfall with the Pela is that the flexible tube cover can crack, it's difficult to spot and reduces the effectiveness greatly.

I’m a happy Lidl pump owner, never leaked and is a lot faster than my Pela. Two years old and not leaking yet. If it does I’ll buy another at the price.

I also have a 500cc oil syringe.
If I'd bought it first, I might never have bothered with the Pela.
Also good for filling things like outboard legs.

Another satisfied Lidl pump user - used 3 times now and still going strong (just a bit slow - but can use with no hands!)

You can see the pump I use to drain both the engine sump and the gearbox oil next to the oil pressure gauge into a handy empty can for disposal.

I got mine from ASPS and is plumbed into the drain plugs of the engine and gearbox via a 2 way selection valve

I think there are Pela pumps and there are Pela pumps. I have heard bad things about the smaller, cheaper units, but I have one of the professional 14 litre units and find it simply brilliant.

I am an ex Lidl pump owner:rolleyes:
I purchased it about 5 years ago and used it for 4 annual oil changes. worked fine, albeit a bit slow. About 15-20 mins to pump out 10 litres of warm oil. I had to extend the cable to reach the batteries.
I destroyed it this year trying to pump Rydlyme around the engine. The pump casing is alloy and Rydlyme just loves it - I was never good at chemistry.
Plenty similar on Ebay and some cheaper than the Lidls one.

I've got one spare if anyone wants it.

Contaminated bilge water with oil, it also had some disintegrated tissue mixed in!

Errrrrr ..... since these pumps specify that they cannot be used for pumping water, I am at a loss to understand why anyone can complain or  if the instructions are ignored.

Sir,
I would like to point out that I am promoting the device and no complaints have left my lips!
:biggrin-new:
PS The water did have some oil in it ;)

Although before anyone begins to panic, Rydlyme is perfectly safe with aluminium and its alloys as present in many systems which are present in watercooled environments. At 50% dilution it is safe in all environments. ;)

Richard

I am not so sure about this.

Thinking that I would clean my mildly encrusted, Volvo, 2 blade, folding prop the season before last I put it in diluted Rydlyme. After 90 minutes it was still fizzing so I removed it only to find that the two holes that had been drilled in it to locate the ambassador cutter and the splines of the central hole of the hub were considerably eroded (See Photo).

I assumed the core is aluminium or one of its alloys? Maybe not?
