Puzzled Novice Question

Several people seem to be saying that you still need to carry enough water on an ocean passage 'cos you can't rely on a watermaker not to break down. Fine, I get that completely. The main use of the watermaker, then, is inshore or even in port. But I was under the impression that the one thing you should never do to a watermaker is to run it close to land 'cos the pollution will [--word removed--] it in no time. Are they more tolerant these days?

Re: Puzzled Novice Question

No, a watermaker is great on an ocean passage. When you are a week out you can re-fill the tanks and enjoy showers etc.

What you must do however is assume that the watermaker will fail next time you run it. Never let the tanks get below the level you would need to get to the next port on minimum rations without topping up.
