99cm Boat - Atlantic Crossing.

He better not come to the Med...because if he thinks he can convince the capitainerie that it’s less than a meter long....they will come down to the boat with a tape measure....the top picture looks a good three meters long

Does it have a bilge pump or will he just get foot rot ?
I’ll be honest...it’s one of these stunts that risk the lives of the rescue services and armed forces...and will probably cost a number of nations a fortune to search for him....not impressed

As I pointed out in the other thread, It’s 11 feet long and the 3 feet is the beam but the media reporting attracts more interest if they refer to it as a 3 feet boat.

I suggested on his Facebook page last year (in a post by Big C dated 2nd October) that it would be prudent to undertake a 'shakedown' voyage first - perhaps just an overnight sail to somewhere initially, followed by a longer passage - and then see if you still think that you can cope with 70 days like this?
And he simply replied with 'Yes we are'.
I have been following his progress since, but I have not seen any subsequent mention of any longer trial sails since this post.

(edited after going back to look at the FB post in October last year)

Glad he's back safe, but to be frank it was horribly inevitable. The boat was already very low in the water before he added more ballast, she was left with no reserve buoyancy; the video of him setting off showed her submarining quite badly even in moderate conditions. With two large dorade vents less than a foot above the waterline, and no glands where the control lines passed through the base of the canopy, substantial leaks were inevitable. The only bilge pump I saw was a low-capacity plunger type, which needed the hatch to be open to discharge.
