My alternator is making end of life noises (bearings). Ages ago someone gave me a Prestolite 90 amp alternator. Would this be too much for a v-belt? It’s a Yanmar 3GM30. I believe modern Yanmars have 120 amp alternators but on a toothed belt.

We are running a Prestolite 90Amp alternator on a Perkins 4108 with a V Belt. Charging a 400 Amp/H lithium bank. DC to DC charger limited to 45 amps draw. I had tested it drawing as much as 70 amps but reduced it to prolong the life of the alternator. In our 3rd year with no issues.

You should be about OK at 90. Its upper range, but the alternator can't put out that full 90 amps for long anyway before overheating.
