Saw early reports on internet while in the office. Main reaction one of disbelief. Then more and more reports flooded in, and started to realise this was real and not aberrant news report. The whole office did little work that day.
The news really started to hammer home when I started calling people I knew that worked there, and started talking to wives and children of friends who were missing, some for a few hours, some for days or more. Many of these wives and children were friends, and I'd been to their homes and knew them.
At that point I called several people who knew how to talk to phone to distress people, and set up a group who would call and talk to all the people I knew who were having issues, and wanted to talk to someone about what they were going through. We spent hours on the phone for the next 4 or so weeks, with little sleep.
Very difficult to explain, and the time zone differences didn't help. I feel very personally involved with the events of that day, and the aftermath.
