Three years on it reminds me of where we were. Having sailed over to Arran from Troon we anchored in our favourite spot beneath Brodick Castle. From there for the first time we climbed "Goat Fell" the highest mountain on Arran and enjoyed the peace and tremendous views of the Clyde, the west coast and highlands and the Irish coast. After a quick descent we sailed back towards Troon in glorious weather to listen on the radio of the breaking news.
I now reflect on the peace tranquility we had that day as others were not so fortunate.
Paul.

Sailing into Cowes with a group of Sailing School students. Started getting texts from a past student, I thought it was a wind up at first. Stopped what we were doing and moored up. Turned on the radio. It was true.

Driving back up the M5, on my way home from a business appointment in Brixham.
Listening to radio accounts of, what was first reported to be, a terrible accident.

Got off plane on way back from a Sunsail in Ionian. Got in car and put radio on to hear first unconfirmed reports of an explosion at WTC. Drove back from airport as story unfolded. First thought was that we had tuned into some War of the Worlds type thing.

I was in Austria, changing flights at the airport - They had a big screen TV on. I noticed a big crowd round the TV, and at first I thought it was just a film, then I noticed that one woman was crying and several others were uneasy, and then I realised it was real!!! This just to made any nervous passenger even more nervous.

I was in work, in a net meeting with some American colleagues. I watched the developments on the BBC news web site for the rest of the afternoon.

About the time the WTC was hit, I was drilling a 2" hole in my kitchen wall when the bit jammed, the drill tore out of my hand and broke 2 of my fingers. When I returned home from casualty a few hours later, I settled down in front of the TV to commence an enforced 3 week respite from work. Feeling very sorry for myself, I switched on the TV News .................................. ! .

tied up next to an american boat who were wondering whether to take down their ensign in case they were targets.

i was thinking back to regular visits in my previous job to head office on the 90th floor of tower 1 WTC

At work when a colleague phoned in tears to say switch on the television.
Work was unthinkable after that.........

We where at anchor in Japan (Gamagori) when the Captain (American) call down on the PA that he’d just heard a report on the radio that sounded crazy, something about 4 planes being hijacked.
We turned on the TV -The picture was coming and going as we swung on the anchor and the commentary and captions were all in Japanese. Naturally we where all stunned by what we saw unfolding throughout the day. Quite surreal.

In the bar of the Real Club Maritimo at las Arenas in Bilbao. Watching it on TV when several Spaniards came in, and immediately changed over to see what effect it had had on Wall Street. Bit sick really, but no one else in the club seemd very interested apart from one or two women.

I was teaching an IT class when it happened so I didn't get to hear about it until I was driving home. I always listen to Radio 4 in the car and I honestly thought it was a clever radio play using the real newsreaders to give it authenticity. It took me many miles before I began to really believe it was true.................

Standing on the outer pontoon at Falmouth marina having a survey done on a SCOD, someone said a light aircraft had hit a skyscraper.
Yacht failed the survey, then found the truth when we got home.

Working in a converted telephone exchange in Jersey, the security guard had a small 14inch portable TV that could just about pick up BBC1/2, he called us over after the first plane hit. The engineers I was with downed tools, and we watched the second plane hit, live.

It's not something I will ever forget.

I have not been on the site for a couple of day's......It is really touching to see that people remember this tragedy like it was yesterday.......Myself I have a son of 22 who is employed by Credit Suisse at Canary Wharf, London......After that tragic day he no longer spoke to familiar voices whom were employed in the Twin Towers buildings.....As parents we were very worried as Canary Wharf was highlighted in the news as a suspected target!......Thank God he was sent home from work early after the planes struck those ill fated buildings!........As parents we considered ourselfs blessed that terrible day
