Hi All,
I recently aquired an 8hp Yamaha long shaft outboard, the motor starts, runs and idles great but there is a hole of about 1 inch in diameter in the leg.
When test running both water and exhaust came out of the hole as it was above the water line in the tank, the tell tail also stops when the hole is left open, if I blank off the hole with my hand the tell tail is fine and all exhaust exits from the prop.
I assume that the hole is there to access the gear linkage bolts as it is at the bottom of the upper casingbut can anyone tell me what should be over it. there do not appear to be any fixing holes for a plate nor any thread in the hole to take a plug, is it just a rubber gromit or should something else be there?
