Some here will remember my thread about our thoughts on SVIII.

Following on from our trip over to SIBS 2007 and our shortlist - Skagen 50, Manhattan 60 and Princess 54.

We also spotted a couple of nice HT Sports Cruisers which are tempting.

We left the show with three boats on the wish list...

Princess 54
Manhattan 60
52ft HT Sports Cruiser - UK spec to be announced soon

We have ruled out our favourite boat the Princess 54 because the dealer has failed to respond to our enquiry.

We have ruled out the Manhattan 60 because it really is too big for our needs.
The Sunseeker dealer have been very professional so we are considering the Predator 52.

So there you have it. We are organising sea trials this summer on the two HT Sports Cruisers.

Both are 50 something with sliding doors. Both have a top speed of 32 knots.

It will be interesting to see if they tempt us away from SVII for 2009.

On the predator (as you may already beaware), Sunseeker are apparently considering installing the new IPS 2 units. Might be worth considering...if you havn't already /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Good luck looking!

Very interesting - I didn't know that - thanks.

I am not sure about IPS however the savings on fuel cannot be ignored.

I know they do the Portofino 47 on shafts and IPS - I may request a test run on both.

Yes Nick - you are correct - well spotted.

However, we didn't like the saloon layout when we talked to Trevor at SIBS. we have been pleasantly surprised to learn that they are launching a UK spec this summer.

I really cannot say more at this stage unless the tall feller gives the OK - best keep an eye on the website /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

We didn't even get to discuss price. She just took one look and didn't like it.

For us, it's a joint decision as we spend so much time aboard.

We were both happy with the Princess 54 - pity /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I don't know how dealers/brokers act in such a way. Is it ignorance or do they just not need the business?

I was trying to buy a Jeanneau Leader 805 not so long ago and the broker simply wouldn't get back to me (Despite sending me out a sale agreement)

Not an uncommon story Niall - It's amazing isn't it?

Best thing you can do in this situation is walk.

If they cannot follow up on a serious enquiry, what will they be like with after sales service???

There's pleny of more fish in the sea /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I can understand that sales people have to deal with a lot of timewasters. I also understand that it may have looked a little silly, a 21yr old 'kid' coming to view a boat. Thing was I offered him a deposit 'there and then' (subject to survey) but he wouldn't take anything until i'd signed the papers... Then the papers never arrived /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Oh well, he lost himself the commission because I was DEFINATELY going to buy that boat so long as there were no faults with it

Like you said, I walked. Probably all for the best, the only thing I didn't like about my current boat was the interior (Which you may have seen has been gutted and is being totally stripped). With the hassle of buying and selling I think i'll stick with my dinkey boat for a while yet.

Can I ask did the dealer simply not get back to you, or are they fumbling you around? Wouldn't they be sickened reading this thread...

Anyhow sorry I can't help you big boys out, i'll stop the off-topic posts as of now /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

"We have ruled out our favourite boat the Princess 54 because the dealer has failed to respond to our enquiry".

Son Vida thats incredable was it a second hand P54 or where you going new? only I know of a nice P54 Clive

Sorry to hear you were disappointed with the response from Princess, especially as I work for the importer here in Norway.
However reading your thread and your several references to it being your favourite boat, are you going to let that put you off, and buy something that you may frequently compare with the Princess and eventually regret buying.
Just a thought seeing as purchasing a boat is a half comon sense and half irrational desire!
If you liked it so much I would try another Princess dealer, and mention the lack of response, I am sure this will ensure better service.

I'm sure in a previous post you mentioned the P54, and said you didn't get a response from Fairline? Did I misunderstand, or is it a common dealer (which seems unlikely)? If the problem is only with the dealer, I wonder if you could organise something through UK sales in Swanwick, their after sales has been very good for me, and I generally hear positive things about them? (may also be cheaper with current fx rates?) If you're near Dublin, then its not difficult for them to send engineers on low cost flights to sort out problems, maybe alongside giving the Irish dealer a chance to redeem themselves?

Maybe you've already moved on, in which case more fool Princess for missing out on a genuine enquiry, but it seems a shame to give up on the boat if it's the one you both want.

Interesting about the UK spec Abs 52. I completely agreed with you about the saloon, far too small for long stays on board.

I bought a new Princess last year and I have to say the level of service and professionalism from both sales and after sales has been first class so I am a little surprised at your poor experience. I think I would be inclined to give them another chance as the P54 looks superb especially that aft master cabin. If you do decide on a Sports Cruiser then the V53 would be high on my list.

Basically, yes we have but it's not as simple as that.

The dealers delay in responding allowed another two dealers to set out their stall and so far, I like what I see.

I am looking at a new boat. I did enquire about a used P54 via a UK dealer. Their response was both quick and professional and they followed up on my queries in a timely fashion.

We have decided to hold off for a few months - after all we are very happy with SV2 /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I would like to have a look at these 52ft HT SC's - at least it will give me some Fly v HT answers /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hi Spannerman.

You are right. If after looking at different boats, we return to the P54 then of course that is what we will buy /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

As I said above, we are happy with our current boat so there is no rush.

Now Mick, lets get this right .................... you need a bigger boat to beat Little Ship around Bardsey Island, come on admit it!.

Can I put her on the back deck of your new one as I have decided not to sell /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Good luck

Tom

PS Ireland in April is the plan!
