49.6m Conversion Project: Supply Vessel to Support Yacht

Greetings..
a couple of points, what flag and classification society will she be under? How far out of survey is she? What will be the manning requirements?
What machinery? ( the main(s) in particular )

I will follow this with great interest, best of British to you! P

Maybe ask Eddy Jordan for Blush's plans would be cheaper??
Mmm... I very much doubt that anyone even remotely attracted by the idea of rebuilding a 240 feet historical ship originally launched in 1930 (starting essentially from a wreck) could fall in love with an epitome of the gin palace concept... :ambivalence:

I appreciate the new thread. The right move but probably insufficient for the vision and ambition expressed. I really think this project would benefit from it's own board if YBW would oblige. The search engines would love you for it. The mainstream media might even get onboard. We can then break this down into specialist threads for engine room, hull, fittings, equipment, believers, non-believers, etc. etc.

She's still in survey. We did her drydocks and shaft replacements in accordance with the appropriate paperwork, and has another 5 years to run. Initially we did the first survey from St Kitts and Nevis, then moved her to a NZ flag.

To get that boat up to charter spec (post 12) and for it to look like the last pics in post 1 will cost millions. Maybe ask Eddy Jordan for Blush's plans would be cheaper?? About the same size?

We'll see. I am excited, whatever happens. It's a nice project... With no asbestos!

I don't think that's necessary. One thread is enough. And I think the op would prefer to keep under the radar of search engines.

I'm actually for this. It would be helpful to have different sections on the engine room, thrusters, bridge mechanics, etc.

And particularly the fairing of the hull... Or how close we in fact need to get to a mirror finish.... If at all.

This looks nice.

But I'm happy ish, with just steel for now (given I saw that mangusta 40m come out of the yard looking exactly the same as this boat does now; before the mangusta had her bogging done).

Am I wrong on that? How wrong?!

Have you thought about sailing her to Thailand and getting the work done? Fraction of the cost of a European yard?

We tried that with the wooden boat I mentioned earlier in another thread.... But I'd rather have European work.

Thoughts on this are welcome. We're only going to get to stage A at this point. A lot of potential work will remain... but the main risk is uncertainty. So the plan is to stick with the yard whose done all the work for the past 17 years, and who did the last surveys, paint, and shaft inspection for us. At least for core structural work.

Finishing and interior is different....

"Initially we did the first survey from St Kitts and Nevis, then moved her to a NZ flag"

I am intrigued - did the Kiwi flag state want any significant changes carried out before they would flag her?

The quote below is from this article on Marinelink :
https://www.marinelink.com/news/designerbuilt-adventure430849?

"Then come talented designers like Monaco’s Stefano Patrovich, renderer of an adventure cruise vessel conversion concept for an out-of-work Norwegian offshore service vessel, or OSV. Norwegian news E.24 suggests cash-strapped Kleven yard could do the Patrovich OSV conversion. "

Is he the NA / stylist who has done your initial (very impressive) concept renderings?
They do look very impressive. Although I am not so sure about the aerofoil / teardrop shaped aperture in the hull topsides amidships. It sort of goes against the original basic and simple angular lines.
If the wheelhouse / bridge is not the structure immediately underneath the mast (I am assuming that the bridge is on the next deck below?) what is this structure?

PLease do get detailed costings / estimates before you get too deeply involved - you might well find it would still be easier in the long run to build a new vessel as per the concept sketches, never mind that your supply vessel that is being converted is still in good condition.

The bridge is the top deck.

Below that is accommodation.

:)

Costings sure.... Yes. .!!

NZ flag.... No... I just wanted to resurvey in commercial class, before converting the registration to a private yacht, of NZ flag.

Not the same Naval architect. I'm keeping the identity pivate as it's up to them to disclose.

There have been some successful conversions where the original "working boat" appearance has been retained - the Norwegian Rescue Boats are my favourite example:

Slowly getting there...

I spent a week aboard in November, and it was amazing...

IMG-20171208-WA0003.jpg

We loaded 34 tonnes of water into the forward freshwater domestic use tanks. The engine room is clean ant beautiful. Shouldn't be long now....

Not 3.4 tonnes... Not a typo... but yes... thirty four tonnes...!

And those yellow rollers at the back we're still too heavy to remove. Three progressively larger cranes tried. We'll get them. Eventually.

She's starting to look a bit more sporty.

Side by side....

Can't wait. Loved sleeping in a real double bed on a boat, with a huge walk in shower. What a treat. Played with the electrics - learned a lot about three phase shore power. We blew the wharf a few times, and the internal "no power" sirens belt out a fairly significant industrial intensity alarm... (Oops).

Great fun 'though.

:)

Looks great CR! But please don’t tell me you’re getting rid of that amazing crane on board?
