45mm ID exhaust hose into a 48mm OD SS tubing? will it fit?

hi all,

doing a small mod in my yanmar 2GMF generator exhaust pipework.
Want to introduce a circa 70deg elbow to keep it clear of the main engine Φ125mm exhaust while keeping it low so that water cannot siphon back into the engine.

Anyway, cannot seem to find 45mm OD SS tubing, either something like 42.5mm or 48mm.
Don't fancy trying to seal to a smaller tube, would rather use the wider and struggle to fit it in.

So simple Q, has anyone managed it?
I have a 1.2kw (iirc) heating gun and I can have a go at it
or should I get the 48mm tubing to the lathe and shave 1mm (plenty thick for what I want!) and make my life much easier?

Exhaust hose is wire-reinforced so unless the hose has loose tolerances it is unlikely to stretch that much - a heat gun won't work.
Can you take the SS tube to a local fabricator and have them re-size it?
 
thanks guys,

wall thickness is 2.5mm, so I should be OK bringing it down to 1.5mm so OD down to 46mm or a tad more.
will try that and report back.
I've struggled before fitting the 125mm main engine hose to 128mm hull fitting on the outlet but granted 3mm in 125 is different to 3mm in 45!

I managed to get 45mm exhaust hose on to 50mm if you twist it the correct way it opens up the wire reinforcement,it's only 1.5mms gap all the way round.
 
You have less chance trying to DO this on a boat - the space is usually too confined. It would be best if you take the various components, at either end of the hose, home and then you can both twist and apply pressure + HEAT.

I've just done this on our new exhaust elbow and hose is the right size - so much easier with a vice to hold the elbow etc

components are at home with a vice grip and heat gun, will do all the work here and just go to the boat to fit one side of the contraption to the vetus gooseneck thing and the other to the hull outlet.
just wanted opinions before embarking into the heating/messing about :D

Forgot to mention

I have found a plumbers wrench the most useful way to hold pre heated (hot) hose (or maybe welding gloves). They grip and allow you to manipulate the pipe (a big Mole wrench would also suffice). But they need to be big to have the jaws big enough for the pipe (not sure if Moles come that big). And feed the jubilee clips first - once on you do not want to take it off!

oops, sorry wrong terminology got an ancient B&D multibench whatever it was called back then and I've mounted a circa 5in vice on it - indeed my vice grip wont be large enough.
Will hold the tube with that and heat/twist wearing welding gloves.
that is once I get some time to bring hose/clamps from the boat.

thanks, based in Greece, ordering something like that from the UK is not worth it.
Have TIG welder at home, worse case is having to get this piece of tube to a machinist to bring it down, a fiver at most...

drove to my mechanic, searched in his scrap bin, found a piece of 44.45mm OD tube cut a small piece, job done :D

will cut it in half and tig weld it to the 48mm elbow in the afternoon.

Vetus make a 60 degree heat resistant plastic elbow for exactly this purpose, made from the same material as their exhaust water locks. the part number is Vetus 41176.
They cost less than £15.
