Since placing my boat for sale a couple of months ago I have had 4 people come to to view, with feedback from each reading as such.........

1,superb style of boat and now I know I like them I'm going to look at importing one myself.

2,Yes love it would like to make you an offer!(24hrs later)sorry I'm unable to raise the funds!!!!!

3,yep love it want it,its exactly what we are looking for, will you keep it for us while we try to sell our existing boat!!!

4,awesome very nice indeed and better than described it would suit our family perfectly.(this one knew the spec and had travelled 200 miles to view)24 hrs later=not sure about fuel economy!!!!

I give up....
Anyone else here had the same sorta thing?
Blatant plug below of my updated for sale ad.

Just have to grin and bear it.

A few years back we were on an earlier boat of ours which had a For Sale sign in the window. A couple cycling by decided to ask if they could take a look so I showed them round and they said all the usual polite things and cycled off.
SWMBO was waiting for me to take her off for dinner and was convinced they were time wasters - they returned the next day and I sold them the boat!

People are people, you can't tell who a timewaster is until they've wasted your time. All you can do is ask them polite questions to try and establish that they have a serious interest.

I think it is fairly normal unfortunately. I had a couple come all the way from Stokholm to look at the Bav, and they still went a bit funny despite 10 days of emails and photos before hand.

1 is just a twat. But at least he was honest

2 well, everyone thinks they have a good credit rating. Suprising how many people haven't and don't realise it

3 unfortunately this is probably the one big thing that stops sales completing with really genuine interested buyers. They want, they like it but they have moved a bit too fast and have to sell their boat. Easy to do when you get caught up in the fun of looking for your next toy

4 he probably came on here and asked what is was like running a petrol boat /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif. IN all seriousness, that probbably came from his pool of experts down the local pub. might be worth highlighting the loss of red diesel, how efficient the boat can be at displacement speed etc etc. I wouldn't give up on the fourth guy, just push him a bit. brreak it down into relaistic figures. Fuel cost isn't that much in the scheme of things...

It is frustrating though, I hope you find a buyer, who wants the boat, with cash in their pocket and a love of petrol!

I do have another viewer lined up for next Saturday coming all the way from the I.O.M seems a very genuine guy has asked all the right questions and has also viewed others of this model for sale elsewhere in the UK and agrees with my statement on the advert staing that a lot of boats are not as good as the vendor portrays!

So fingers crossed,I know he will not be dissapointed.

Cheers

Looks a very tidy together boat. Hang in there, Its priced right so a real buyer will be along soon. Talking about time wasters--I had one once that wanted me to pay his surveyer fees--take a 30% knock on the price and put new marble wortops in the galley ( he didnt like the perfectly good Corrian). Asked him for a deposit--" Forgotten my cheque book". At that point swift ejection of punter with size 12 Sebego--his feet didnt touch the bathing platform.

Rob,

I hope your chap coming over from the IOPM buys the boat. If he wants that model then your boat looks great.

The only comment I have is I think you should pay the extra £20 to have a few more pictures on the Advert. You say you have new carpets and upholstery, so internally the boat probably looks absolutely stunning SO WHY NOT SHOW IT OFF AND LET PEOPLE SEE IT???????????

So many people shop and reasearch on the web and will disregard boats where there aren't any (or many) decent pictures of the actual boat.

Just my two pennies worth. With any luck you already have a buyer on his way over /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif (tried to find a fingers crossed smilie but couldn't)

Thanks Jez

You are of course correct and thats exactly how my advert looked before I re submitted it yesterday to get it back to the top of the listings.

Think I'll wait for the outcome of next Saturday before I commit to adding the extra photos.

Rob

PS those words below your name, think maybe you should consider changing as you dont want anyone thinking that westline are fitted with smoking volvos!!

Talking about time wasters, last boat we sold we found a genuine prat.

We were fortunate enough to have two interested parties at the same time, who both new about each other.
Anxious not to provoke a bidding war the first had a sea trial after he had agreed to pay the asking price, all went well so he & his family went off to fetch a deposit.
Second interested party turned up, sorry mate iv'e just sold I had to say (lucky they hadn't driven far).

Waited around for first party to return, & waited & waited......
Phoned them........Ahh sorry, we will transfer funds by bacs transfer when we get home!
Three days pass, with endless calls, explained the agreement was binding but no joy!

Eventualy sold to second interested party only for the first to phone two weeks later to ask for a reduction in price, I explained that as no contact had been made I had assumed they were no longer interested to which he replied we had made an agreement & the boat was his.......so I put the phone down.

Some people will do anything for a free ride, no morals at all, lesson take a deposit before a sea trial, if they are genuine this will be no problem.

I think the interior looks really nice, much much nicer than you would normally find on a boat of that age. You really should have them in the advert

I remember when these were sold new from Universal Marina on the Hamble. Mum and dad had a sailing boat there and I REALLY wanted a motor boat!!! I remember the fly bridge boat with the wood at the back, so must have been a 2556. I guess I was about 14 at the time!

Try BoatShed for this reason - Boatshed sell most boats on the first viewing for the reason that they have about 70 pictures of each boat on their website which is viewed all over the world. People know what they are buying before they view - in some cases they buy over the phone! Nothing to loose - no sale no fee

Welcome to the world of boat selling /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif, now imagine you have 15 boats to sell all over £200k, half the peeps have junk to trade and get uppy cus you have to value it accordingly, the other 1/4 are trying to blagg a sea trial cus their bored on a sat afternoon and nothing to do with the family, the other quarter might be serious but are killing you on price or have border line finance. The borderline finance ones are the killer though cus you have to go through the whole sale process and reams of form filling for the bank etc and two weeks later the whole thing comes apart and that can happen four or five times on one boat.

Of every 30 people you get round a yard one might be a goer but you have to treat everyone the same, hard graft! Then peeps wonder when you have an off day, I don't normally but there comes a point you have a string of days of tyre kickers and time wasters and its hard not to get disheartened.

On the other hand you get the odd week everything goes swimmingly and you sell like the clappers no rhyme or reason to it.

My view is there is no place for hard selling in the boat business, its one of those lifestyle industries where no amount of hard selling will push someone into a boat, within 30 seconds they have made up their mind whether they are buying or not so sometimes its a game of sit and wait.

My solution....only ever buy one boat.

In the car biz they call em tire kickers....boat brokers must call em prop spinners.

To bad you couldnt just stand there with a sign ....'idiots with no money please form line here'

'Idiots with lots of money .....FOLLOW ME!!!!'

From a ditch crawlers point of view... I get them all the time and I buy, do up, sell at the lower end of the market 15- 20k lots of day dreamers, fender kickers etc, but at my price range and assuming the boat is all steel and 40' + I can usually sell the boat within a month of marketing. I get the impression that motor boat market is a bit slower? I have the advantage at the mo to hit the live aboad market to.

Nigel

edit to say... nice boat Rob! unfortunatelly I'm not quite ready to make the giant leap from dodging ducks to dodging Wightlink ferrys yet! so I won't come along and kick ya fenders. Good luck with the sale. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

[/ QUOTE ] So wait about 40 seconds and ask "you buying or not then?"
Hey, it's easy this lark.

If the "Geniune Guy" has His Wife with Him, sell it to Her.
To make it from the Island to You He has to be interested.
Tell Him it's an ideal boat for the Island, will punch the tide (need to round there) will get him back in when the mist comes in (does do round there) don't mention petrol is a bit iffy to source from a Marina berth round there!
Can,t be too much of a prob however cos Honda powerboats are using loads of petrol racing around Douglas bay Today!
