4 knobs

we have been having trouble and getting confused(easily done if you know us) using 4 control,2 engine 2 throttle and would like to change it for a simpler 2 knob job! as many other boats seem to have these, where would i start looking, i have a sealine 310 i guess cables would have to change as well or am i taking on a much more worthless job again?

yes same controls there as well , though if its a major expence i may just renew one set as its only panicky on attempting to return to finger against tide and wind and as other boats seem so close at the sides rear and front

We used to have a Sealine 310 Statesman with the same throttle/gear 4 lever configuration. Not having experienced it before, I too found it confusing to start with. If it turns out to be too expensive to change (or indeed even if not), stick with it, for the system really grew on me - it didn't take long for it's use to become second nature.

No you must stick with what you have or change both

4 levers is american standard way of doing things
yes you can change to a twin single lever type control
BUT
you will need to fit a collecter box to join the gear cables


the advantage of the 4 levers is that you can usually leave the throttles at tick over and manouver on the gears only it also means that the cables can be either run in tandem which may mean shorter cables less cables less bend less friction less load etc
they can be fitted with both throttles on one control gear on other control this has advantages but means that you can not have interlocks to stop wrong selection as a danger with some single function controls is that you can change gear at high revs

single lever controls mean less levers but more complicated cable set up

if you can get used to the 4 levers it is I think better but ask the audience on that one

Have you considered the Morse "Fly by wire" system. I have had it fitted on mine and life is far easier. Can move both levers with one hand (even in opposite directions), and no need to keep hand on throttle when moving to stop cable movement.

I've got a problem controlling my knob, never mind having two to hold and control /forums/images/icons/shocked.gif Just out of interest, if you were to be left handed is there a way that the knobs can be moved about, or are you stuck with the position they come in? My knob is in the normal position, but I have wondered what it would be like to use my left hand on it. I guess it would add to the problem of controlling it, I haven't seen any left handed boats yet /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I am left handed and my controls are on the right, u get used to it very quick
with boats all around you!

hlb , im not sure and im doubtfull that it was standard as most seem to have 2 levers, so i guess that someone must have changed alomg the line prior to my ownership, our flybridge also has mirror 4 as well
