Finally happened,my little 2hp Honda seized pushing my 2.7 Honwave against the big spring tide on Saturday on the river Teign. Got my eye on a new Mariner 5hp. Any recommendations? Maybe a Tohatsu

Thanks for that Firefly. I,ll check out the prices down at BHG. I initially considered a Mariner rather than a Yamaha or Honda on price alone. You are correct in stating the 4hp would suit the 2.7 Honwave well.
Does the outboard stay on the tender, or do you have to lift it on and off each time? If the former, then 6 hp sounds a good option, but if the latter then I'd try and find a used 3.3/3.5hp 2-stroke in good condition, which is almost half the weight (and about the same as your Honda).
our fleet of outboard weights below;
Yamaha 6hp - 27kg
Mercury 3.5hp - 9kg
Honda BF2hp - 12kg
I thought all the small 2 strokes were a similar weight at about 13 kgs, so 9 sounds very light, but either way it's a lot easier to handle on and off a bouncy tender than 27 kgs.
Hello again Firefly. Thought I should let you know, I popped into BHG on Saturday and bought a Yam 5hp. Ive yet to try it on my inflateable,but Im sure it will be a lot more fun than the old 2hpHonda. I,ll probably find I spend more time with this combination than aboard LennyVee, my little ship. Thanks for the tip.
