I hope to launch and show you via a live webcam and maybe some sailors would like to try one out for me...

The brightest, smallest, simplest anchor light yet. Better than the Bebi I hope. My neighbours have asked me to turn the light off so they can sleep (I have been testing it at end of garden in all weathers).

I have a few permutations and therefore seek to see what most people currently use or would like.

My simplest permutation is waterproof, floats and is hardwired to a 'cigar' plug and is intended to hang where jib normally would be flying and is very very cheap.

Other variations are possible.

Thanks if you take part in poll (that hopefully I can create in time limit imposed by software).

edit: battery operated means some kind of rechargeable AA sized cells. Basic means it works from ship's 12V system.

I am looking for a mega-bright 12v LED anchor light which I can dangle in the rigging, is there a link please?

I only have prototypes at moment, but I can knock one up in an hour.

What will you use it for? Wait for it... I mean, do you do a lot of anchoring or will it be for use on a mooring where you want boat to be seen and not hit?

edit : If you mean link to live webcam, I haven't rowed out to friend's boat yet to hang it in rigging. Will bump this post when I have it on board. It will be an LDR hardwired version (LED) of course.

Both really, I am changing all the lights to LEDs.
(Apart from the current consumotion, it gives space for all the sat-mushrooms to go on the lightboxes, instead of being bodged on the stanchions etc which is a big benefit)

thanks.

By weekend at latest, I hope to have an anchor light on mate's boat and then everyone can look at the live webcam to see what they think.

Hopefully I can then find a few people to try the lights out and post back what they think of them.

Must pull my finger out, so much to do and the days are flying by. I don't think I'm even going to get a chance to sail this year with backlog of 'inventions' that I am trying to launch before we have to re-mortgage house to gain cash for food.

Best sort of anchor light...

This was taken on my late fathers boat Wanda on the West Coast of Scotland. He anchored thousands of nights... nothing ever hit him.

I would not be too worried about automatic, I would not like it to be like my car lights which switch off too soon without you noticing.
Also IMHO, you need a manual 'On' for fog, rain or mist.

Not sure mega power is always good, maybe there's a case for hi/lo settings?

I have a low power LED anchor light I made years ago, it is fine for most of the time, sometimes use it on dark moorings, e.g. up the Dart.
I would not want 'Blackpool illuminations' up there, people just need to see you from 100 yards and we have a dark hull....
Also, you have to look after your night vision.
But something watty would be useful at times, e.g. if waiting out fog.

I think hard-wired to the 'ship' is most useful, OTOH, there is a market for an all-round white for tenders etc, perhaps mounted on a stick?

Good Luck!

I've had Bebi Owls on two boats now, and am very happy with them. Sadly no longer made. So my request is essentially for a like-for-like replacement in case I should ever need one :)

That means small, indestructible, reliable, and very bright. Powered from 12v via an included long wire so there are no joints (the Bebi lights are a solid block of resin with the wire emerging and running seamlessly to the supply plug). A light sensor so that it can be hung up along with the anchor ball in the afternoon and then forgotten about. Perhaps an LED or two pointing downwards so people can see the boat rather than just a point of light (I bought the Bebi version made as a dual-purpose anchor and cockpit light; in the event I never used it that way, but the additional downward-shining light made us very visible).

Don't bother putting a cigarette lighter plug on the end. I'll be fitting my own DIN plug (on Kindred Spirit) or Bulgin IP67 deck plug (on Ariam).

Pete
