This joyful event will be celebrated in September and no expense is to be spared. Options are Seyschelles, Maldives or Mauritius (collecting daughter from Africa which, I think, rules out Maldives). Mauritius has more real people there rather than loads of happy holidaymakers; Seyschelles looks a bit false?

Prefer Mauritius but anybody else got any thoughts...please....

Wouldn\'t your wife prefer...

Wouldn't your wife prefer you to spend the money on nice things for your boat instead? Sure you can think of a few bits and pieces you simply must have!

Re: Wouldn\'t your wife prefer...

Household income during partic heavy exp was in "cleats" eg new shoes 5 cleats and radar set 6 cleats. Ex rate varied depending on who was spending the cleats.

She actually said "why don't we push the boat out" and ears pricked up for a mo.

Spanners - not good idea. Bought her a set of screwdrivers last year and regretted it ever since - she can use 'em as well as I can and now get shamed into doing things.

If anybody has actually been to any of these places, would like to hear....

Hi

Maldives are basically hotels surrounded by warm water. Great if you want to swim and pay captive bar prices.

Seychelles are fine but a bit touristy.

Mauritius is primitive and wild. Great place to go and see nature and spectacular scenery. Have a look at www.mauritius.com for a sample. Your other half will love it. Hang the expense. Just make sure you have the mobile on the boat so you can ring her on the actual day!

Or alternatively

Zanzibar & Pemba (it may get better than that somewhere, but if so I don't know where).

Or a little wilder - Madagascar.

Both good choices if daughter is in East Africa.

BTW you lucky s*d, - hope Madame takes me somewhere like that when my time comes around

My son spent his honeymoon in Mauritius this April. He thought the place was wonderful. They stayed in a "distributed hotel", a collection of individual huts with central main facilities. He did some sub-aqua for the first time, came back with a PADI qualification. Lots of sailing, windsurfing, etc. Sounded fantastic.

Re: Or alternatively

Agree with Zanzibar and Pemba, I went there for work about 20 years ago, very friendly people, no tourists to speak of, I had the hotel to myself, no telephones, good weather and swimming, no crime, no electric etc etc. was given a motorbike to run around on, no helmet, no licence, no insurance.
Don't know what its like now though, I suspect it has modern hotels, tourists etc etc.

Lovely place. The only problem is that it is too mild in the winter and too cold in the summer. I once swam in Tobermory harbour in the middle of the summer. I still feel cold just thinking about it.

Give me an indication of your interests and where you would like to go.
I can see your daughter arriving in Melbourne ( think SAA still fly here) , you flying here also, you all meet up, then head north, either hrough he center or via Sydney, Brisbane to GBR

Re: Or alternatively

Thought of Zanzibar...daughter was there. Getting anywhere (by plane thro Dar es Salaam) is, according to her, quite difficult to the point that it is quicker going back to London and then out again. But then, anything that doesn't happen instantly is just too, too, much with that one......!

It's still achievable, though......and, thanks
