3.3hp needs more

Ive got a 3.3 mariner, and really like it because it so light to haul around. It also very nearly gets my d250 rib on the plane but not quite. Anyone know how to get a bit more out of it without spending a fortune, eg alu prop rather than plastic.

Plastic props are never a good idea. Try ali.

Alternatively try a 5 blade stainless surface piercing prop - only £10,000.

your 3.3 is really a development of the 2 hp which is why it is so light, I am surprised that you have that size engine on your rib it is much more suitable for a inflatable tender for raggies. I would have thought a 5hp would be abt right for you to give a reasonable balance between weight and performance. I would be happy to take your 3.3 for a beer token or three as I need to upgrade from my 2hp!!!

I bought the 3.3 before the rib and sold on my 4hp which I didnt use because of its weight. Hauling anything heavier out of the engine bay and onto the bathing platform is a bind and I dont fancy leaving an outboard on the stern exposed. I am on a swinging mooring in poole. The rib is a useful tender which we tend to tow around and use it with the outboard to explore shallower areas.
Perhaps I should go the twin route and get another !

...Best solution is to lose some weight, like maybe about 5 stone ?

I am in a similar situation: wife can get it planing (8.5 st), whereas I (16 st) just get a larger wash and a faint smell of burning. The Merc 3.3 is a great little engine for it's size&weight, but just doesn't have the displacement to get FB's planing.

Changing props probably isn't going to help much IMHO.
