A couple of friends of mine would like to service their Mariner 3.3hp 2 stroke outboards. Is there somewhere on the web I could find a service manual to help them decide what they need to do?

very little to do.
dusbin of water
set up o/b in it & run, check water is coming out of the rubber tube out of the block ( spray from back of leg earlier models).
run for 10 mins, turn off fuel to drain carb & let engine stop when fuel is used up
drain & refill gear box.refill from the bottom hole, the top hole is the oil level indicator, when oil comes out of the top hole, replace top bunk screw then the bottom one
remove spark plug squirt in some engine oil & pull over to circulate oil, replace plug.
drain fuel tank
spay with wd 40 & wipe down.
store vertical

Best also to check the water pump impeller, located behind propeller.

If you do not have owners manuals you should be able to download copies from the Download center tab at http://www.brunswickmarineemea.com
I have to say its not the easiest of sites to find what you want though!

There is also a year identifier there if you need to ID the year.

There are a few more things you should do in addition to those in Sailorman's list.

Lubrication of various moving parts as shown in the manual
If the old gear oil is milky when drained it contains water and the cause should be investigated and seals replaced as necessary.

Periodically it's worth renewing the water pump impeller.

Impellor on this model with Neutral and forward is not behind the prop it is located in the case above the gearbox on the drive shaft as it enters the gear box. You need to remove bottom part of leg to get at it, not forgetting to loosen the gear rod via the circular plastic cover above the gear box. This can all be a bit fiddly but patience will help particularly getting it all back together again. Just done mine a few weeks ago, of course when I got it appart the impellor was absolutly fine!

ran it up last week when i winterized my Tohatsu 3.3.
put fuel in it went 3 rd pull. Ran for 10 mins then winterized it

Yes, I stand corrected. Mine is a 2.5 hp, which has the impeller behind the prop.

Hark at you Mr Amazing!! haha

To the mortal world, inspecting and if necessary, replacing the impellar is one of the most important parts of the service. No engine cooling = no engine! :)

I have the manual in pdf form if you need it.

It is a very very simple engine though.

Zillions were made & no doubt still are for non EU countries

I used to do the servicing on these every work day on my weekend job at the chandlery i worked for.

Running the engine in fresh water does 3 jobs at the same time, cleans inside the head, ensures your fuelling is correct and makes sure the impeller is good. TBH i'd not bother with impeller changing if done last winter, we changed the impeller as a part of the service, not one that was changed the previous winter had cause for concern.

Very rarely will the engine on these things go bang if you do cook it. They just die and you have to let them cool off before restarting, thats from experience :D

If you do have milky gbx oil, don't worry about it, the seals are so agricultural on these things that a slight pit in the shaft or misalignment and they will always weep, you could change numerous seal before curing it.

This is only opinion though!

Well for my less than important tip of the day, when I changed the impellar, I fitted a Johnson one as it's a harder compound rubber and gives a better flow of water.

With these things, you could be lucky and never have to change one etc but considering if you shop around, you can get 2 with change of a tenner, it's always wise to check and if it's damaged, replace.

It also gives you a little more peace of mind that when you're motoring out to your boat, you're not gonna be holding your breath waiting to lob the oars in.. :)
