i am about to fit a second house battery . My existing one is a bosch 120 amp hour, I have been given a price on a fulmen 135 a/h much cheaper than the bosch but am told i should go for the bosch as it is better to have 2 of the same type - is this correct?

I thought the advice was to get two compatible batteries - preferrably of the same age because an old battery will drag down a nw one.

Hi,

I think it is more important to have a split smart charging system as this will control the charge across both batteries far better.

No problem, really...

If your existing battery is only 4 months old, there's no problem adding a similar-sized one of a different make, as long as they're both compatible chemistry (ie both wet lead/acid, both sealed lead/acid, both gel, etc).

If the 2 batteries are to be your domestic battery bank, they should just be wired permanently together in parallel. There's no need for a diode isolator between them.
