Can someone please tell me where I can find the plate telling me the gear ratio on my Yanmar 2GM20? I spent an hour with my head in the bilges and a torch and couldn't see it anywhere. The boat is an Elan 295 if that makes any difference, and its a shaft drive not a saildrive.

thanks everyone... :)

KM gearbox ? workshop manual shows a big plate on the rhs . You'd not miss it if its there. I assume the ratio is stamped on that plate.

It's on the back of the bell housing on ours. Above the yellow oil filler and left a bit in the picture (black wire with white ID tags just between it and the camera):

Thanks VicS and MrG, I'll go and have another look tonight after work...
Incidentally the gearbox looks just like the one in mrG's photo, though I was looking for an oval sticker, as shown in the manual?!

Hi Big Nick

A fellow Elan 295 owner here - I'm afraid I can't help with where the gearbox plate is but looks like MisterG has the answer, although I expect gaining access to actually see the plate may be tricky if your installation is like ours! Pretty sure our ratio is about right in terms of speed through the water and throttle/revs.

Sending a PM so we can have a chat about Elan 295 attributes!

PS all. Share in our boat available to the right candidate for a mix of racing and cruising ...

Thanks all, found it! Elan built the rear engine cover around the back of the bellhousing. I'd have had to dismantle the boat to find it! With your help I managed to stick my camera in a hole and have a pic of it! :D

For anybody interested the ratio is 2.62 : 1
