27-30 ft, single engine, river cruiser? ideas?

Only speaking from experience! We owned her for three odd years, but 5/6 people fit upstairs OK.

We also helmed from inside, but only if it was raining.

I used to get around 5mpg, or under a gallon per hour...

Strangely, the Scand, with 2x 165hp Diesels appears only a little less economical! (I often use only one engine between locks though...) until opened up on the tideway.

I think I've cracked it! A Birchwood 25 seems to tick all our boxes at present... It's wide, single 1.8 diesel engine on shaft, plenty of space and could even do my dream journey up to St Kats.. What do you think my friends?

I am actually astonished that neither No Regrets or Ramage have suggested this previously. They were both proud owners of Birchwood 25's in the not too distant past and never tired of telling us how excellent they were :D

Certainly. IMHO, the best option you have identified so far.

Previous advice was to just get aboard as many Boats as possible and you will know when you have found the right one... The Birchwood 25 felt so right..

As someone who urged you to take just that approach, I'm delighted that you did and appear to have a happy outcome. Now you need to make sure that your enthusiasm doesn't cloud your judgement, and make sure the object of your desires is actually sound and a sensible purchase.

as an inexperienced boat owner/user but having felt reasonably safe with my first foray at the price paid... what on earth am I looking for....
the prospective is at a marina for sale not far from where I am now... hull looks really clean, engine looks incredibly clean... 1.8 diesel, inside is exactly as the seller left it... knick knacks and all (poor health I hear)... its not messy and un-cared for as absolutely loads of boats I have looked at seem to be. Just a really good feeling at the price...

its on hard standing already. What is the ball park price of a survey on such a cruiser? and do we have any local conatcts? and when i get it done what should i avoid if it appears... spoke to someone about a boat i looked at recently and he said it had a tiny bit of osmosis on the hull but not a problem... its only a problem when it becomes large blisters... true or false?
