27-30 ft, single engine, river cruiser? ideas?

Whatever you buy and look at as much stuff as possible, you will probably know its the boat you want as soon as you walk along the pontoon.
After seeing so many overpriced neglected scruffy Noahs Ark scrapheaps ........it will stand out like a sore thumb!

It probably isn't what you're looking for but I found it a nice boat, was a Profile 33 twin diesels on shafts, handled impeccably and was very economical.

Originally designed by Dave Gannoway of Bursledon Bridge. The original concept was as an open cockpit harbour launch but it proved more popular as a pleasure craft.

Having been on that particular vessel was very impressed with the stabilty and quality of construction,if not the top speed :)

Am I barking up the wrong tree with a Medeira 27 with centre cockpit?
It has a seperate aft cabin for sleeps...zzzzz
A shower for extended stays, 1 x diesel engine on shaft, basically all the facilities we need in the next size up... and its very very reasonably priced for a next boat..

Please advise if this is a bad move on a budget. We are just trying to get more space and mare facilities than we currently have.. and with 3 kids don't go out as often as we like so it may be a cost effective boat under the circumstances, but large enough not to be compromising when we do want a 3 day jaunt... maybe the £25k-£30k boat is the one to buy when kids are older and as a couple we have more time to enjoy... ummmm

You are trying to satisfy too many conflicting requirements. You will not get enough space for 2 adults and 3 kids in a 27 footer - not unless you get on with each other a damn sight better than most families I know !! :D
Buying a boat tends to be an iterative process. First decide a budget and start looking. Then realise budget not enough for what you would like. Then decide how important budget is and either revise budget or reconsider aspirations!
Probably fair to add at least £5k to your clearly decided absolute top whack budget figure as you can probably expect to knock that off any asking price when you get down to the nitty grit ties.
The Broom 30 No Regrets is a good buy if you can afford it and a boat that will look after you and the family well whilst holding its resale value when you decide to move on. I know the circumstances behind the recent re appearance so soon after it was sold previously and I don't think you need have any concerns about the boats condition because of that.

Don't really know that boat, but all the centre cockpits we looked at seemed very limited on cockpit seating

having said the Medeira looks more of an aft cabin

Here's something similar http://www.jonesboatyard.co.uk/boat-sales/fairline-mirage-aft-cabin-boat-for-sale-5923.html

Or perhaps something like this would work http://www.boatshed.com/birchwood_commodore_31-boat-152264.html

Both are cracking boats, it is quite amazing what you can get around that price range..

Its fine as a river boat, but very underpowered if you were considering a tidal jaunt down to London. And as others have said will be cramped for a family. Aft Cockpit Madeira would have more space although the engine options are still the same low power BMC 1.5 diesel

Unfortunately the old saying that a photo never lies is complete twaddle when it comes to boats...we looked at a number that appeared amazing in the photo's, only to find that they really shouldn't be afloat.
