Are there 26ft (ish) wheelhouse sailing boats with good sea keeping and sailing abilities. My berth restricts any thing much more than a foot or so bigger

Standing headroom, 4 berths and stylish appearance also desireable

Any suggestions? New boats are most likely beyond my budget...

LM27. Tiller in the cockpit for fine weather sailing, wheelhouse for the nasty stuff. I also like the fact that the galley is in the wheelhouse, lots of advantages here. Plenty of room for 4 (or more) in comfort below.

I would have thought it impossible to find anything like that

That looks like a specification impossible to meet.

You could also consider the Degero 28, although they do maintain their value well. There's also an LM26 which is a bit more open plan than the LM27.

Whilst beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I suspect I'm not the only one who finds the concept of a 26 foot wheelhouse yacht somewhat incompatible with having stylish appearance.

There's a Hunter Pilot at the marina near me and looking at it, I couldn't work out if you could control the sails, sheets and tiller from 'inside' or is the idea that you motor when inside and sail when outside. Anyone know?

I very nearly bought a LM27 from Croatia, it will outsail the Fisher 25, A great boat in my humble opinion, although silly prices are asked, much cheapness can be bought, especially from Holland.

Under sail you can helm her from the deck saloon but have to step out into the cockpit to trim the sheets etc. I think this is usual on small yachts with a fully enclosed wheelhouse or deck saloon.

What was a silly price, and how cheap are they in Holland?

Kirie 27 Fifty. Big Perkins 48 hp, 27 ft x almost 10 foot beam. Not many in UK, I almost bought one in Holland which was going for €10,000 but chickened out at last minute. Still kicking myself.

Ahem, the OP said "and stylish appearance also desireable" not "and a really dumpy appearance also desireable"

Good small motor-sailers are not that common, particularly ones that sail reasonably well, are highly practical and sturdy. The price of the Fisher 25 and LM27 types reflects that. There is a better availability of LMs both in the UK and particularly Northern Europe so more chance of matching your budget. Still not cheap though with prices £20K+ for good early models. Very few english language reviews about to help your research unfortunately.

Have just gone the motor-sailer route myself with a Scanyacht 290 (LM27 derivative) and can confirm the sailing pleasure is still there along with the comfort, weather protection and mobo benefits that I wanted.

Think you are being bit harsh. There is one in Millport bay and it looks a lot better than the one in your pic as it does not have all the clutter at the stern. As has been said (with the exception of the LM) wheel house and stylish do not sit together.

There are some really fun looking boats around the 26' imho.

The Cap'n Pugwash Fisher series, built solidly that have excellent caravan facilities which owners seem to really enjoy, even though they sail like a bathtub.

and that IP24.... I'd have been well pleased with that when my kids were small and if I wanted a really good little boat to get them started on the sea, a big lake or somewhere like The Broads.

I've never had a big budget and have always had 'to cut my cloth', but as long as the OP compromises a little, as many of us have to, he'll be able to find one that suits.
