I am seeking information on a boat I saw featured in classic boat magazine many years ago. It was made of steel, 25 ft long rigged as a gaff cutter (I think) and had both a bowspit and bumkin. I think it was the designers idea to produce either plans or possibly kits for constuction. I have got the idea that it was called (or intended to be called) 'Bluewater 25' but I have been unable to access any info. using this name. I would like to find the back issue of classic boat or any other information. Regards JWob

I remember the boat. Though I can't be sure, it might have been a Bruce Roberts design, Pretty boat though. Mike.

I know of one "Bluewater 25" called India. She was sold last year by Williams and Smithalls Brokerage in Ocean Village. They are over 40' LOA with Bowsprit and bumpkin! I think "India" had quite a racing pedigree too in Spain, but my internet search has been fruitless I'm afraid. :(

Issue number 27, September 1990 [pp69-71] should fill the bill, with other articles or mentions in issues 19 & 20 [Jan & Feb of the same year]. The original design was called "Blue Moon" and was designed by Tom Gillmer as a blue-water cruising yacht for single-handed sailing.
Peter.

I have a set of the original plans for the steel boat which I bought in 1990. I believe they are no longer available. This boat is now the GRP Tradewind Atoll. It can be found here <http://www.tradewindyachts.co.uk/tradewind-atoll.htm> and here <http://www.maritime.co.uk/tradewind/>
and for a privately owned example <http://www.johnson-uk.info/>

The glass version is also being made under license and to a superb standard in The Netherlands by Austin Lyons. His site is here <http://www.lionclassicboats.com>
and pic of Austen Lyons own boat here <http://www.oldgaffers.nl/schepen/plaatjes/Snug.jpg>
should you wish to visit him he is a very friendly and welcoming bloke and will be more than glad to take you out on his Tradewind at any time of the year. Contact details on his site - but it is slow to load.

To get a small history of the steel version, and where it originated before Tradewind yachts took over the design, go to this thread :

This site also contains a sketch of the general arrangment that came from the original steel plans pack.
