For our 40ft yacht we pay 3160€ on the western French Med, up about 10% from last year. Initially we kept the boat in the Solent but since moving south we have saved many £10k's.

Now thinking about one of the Brittany marinas instead. I appreciate the costs will vary from area to area.
The requirement to leave every 18 months is a worry for me on this plan. It sounds like a long time but it doesn't take much to stop you doing a big trip for two seasons. I guess the VAT would probably be less than a few years marina savings though so may be worth while

Yes, I'd be interested to know the increase percentage. Inflation? CPI? Blanket 10%?

There is really no point in anyone pretending that marinas are there for the good of the boating community...

We are at Haslar -very friendly staff at marina even if we have a fear the boatfolk rulers might eventually lead to departures of key staff and other unwelcome changes eventually that said we still prefer to other Gosport marinas. If I was retired the West Country or Brittany would perhaps help the budget but which Brittany marinas do you have in mind? We like St Cast but I guess no permanent berths in many Brittany marinas?

Heads up for those of us that keep their boats in a south coast marina. I‘ve received an annual quote for my 39’ yacht of £9650.……gulp. Now thinking about one of the Brittany marinas instead. I appreciate the costs will vary from area to area.
There are waiting lists in most Brittany marinas.

So about £820 per metre? Top Dollar! Must be the Hamble or Poole, or am I out of date? If you lived next door to the marina and sailed at least every week it might be worth it because if you shifted you would get less sailing and much more hassle. However, I would not travel far to pay that sort of money. It all hinges on how you use your boat
I might think about the East coast for a couple of years, at which point there could well be a bit of a shake out in UK marinas.

….actually I do live v near the marina So yes it IS very handy for both sailing and maintenance tasks. It’s not on the Hamble. Tbh I am told there is a waiting list (there always is….) but I am an existing client within the company. Interesting comment about Haslar and Boatfolk ref. staff turnover……the company that I’m with has suffered badly with this, to the detriment of we, their customers. If they charge the earth then at least give a very good service. Their answer in the past has been - well you are paying just for a berth. Sooner or later they will price themselves out of the market, or I guess that’s my wishful thinking!

10,000 Euro would buy a lot of marina nights in Northern Brittany should you find waiting lists on the west coast. Even paying as a visitor by the month you could come out in pocket. Of course there is the travel plus juggling the 90 days but that's the case whatever.

If you were willing to leave the boat in Morlaix at some point you could be paying c 500E per month - visitor rates. Of course when you are there on the ground it is much easier to sound out a contract for the following season, and a potential upgrade perhaps to a more accessible site like Roscoff. Here are the charges, if you could swing a contract there it would be c 3000 E per annum!

The Roscoff group includes L'aberwrach and Morlaix:

Tarifs Port de Roscoff - Ports de Roscoff & Morlaix | Guide du port

The advantages of the northern ports mean that, arriving by ferry, you can rock up in the car with all your stuff ready to go in no time. Much easier to handle if you are retired though, I admit.

Currently £3500 for a 38' in Ramsgate. Love the town, facilities, marina and weather better than home being 250 miles North
