Spent the afternoon while the wind howled and the hail battered on the windows installing the latest package on my W 10 laptop and a new android tablet. Took a while because I had forgotten both my Paypal and Memory Map passwords but really impressed with what I have got now, charts have all been redrafted with extended commentary on the page. Not many anchorages that I can envisage using that are not covered which is bound to annoy Jumbleduck who blames Bob for spoiling his solitude and sense of adventure. You now pay through Memory Map, after downoad to activate on up to 5 devices, the massive sum of £8.99 to update, bit more for new users. Must be about 5p a chart? They are available for other formats too but Memory Map charged me >£50 in 2009 and included the Admiralty folio UK and Ireland with updates since so well pleased with their price too.
I use Seatrak with the same Admiralty charts on the lap top for most of my navigation as I find it more user friendly and I can not be bothered to work out tidal heights or streams anymore so I did not install the Admiralty MM folio on the tablet which will just be pulled out when thinking of anchoring.

Yes, fantastic to see the 2020 release. Now over 500 charts.
And as you say Bob has much simplified the MemoryMap installation on mobile devices - eliminating the need for the separate Commentary used previously.
Great stuff

PS If using on an Android phone with an SD card, worth setting the option to load onto the SD card before doing the download.

Ach, there comes a point where do many are covered that the chances of anyone else being in the one I want are low. 98% of all visitors will still go go Puilladobhrain anyway.

Edit: I've just been to the website and bought the BSB update. This may finally be the year where I get conversion for MX Mariner to work.

You clearly need some freebie help like lastpass.com, which works across W10 & Android. Eventually you can teach it all the passwords you can remember or retrieve...

Mike.

I think hes pulling your leg as there will be a disclaimer some were about using them for pilotage ;)

Antares Terms and Conditions

6. Given all of the above WE DO NOT CONSENT TO YOUR USE OF THESE CHARTS FOR NAVIGATION, which includes the planning of navigation, and if you acquire them it is on this basis. You should continue to navigate in the conventional way, using pilot books, ‘official’ charts, and other traditional means, whilst, if you wish, monitoring your position on our charts. At some stage you may feel our charts are helpful and sufficiently reliable for your particular needs and that you have acquired the skills to use them; but if you do use them it is entirely YOUR DECISION AND AT YOUR RISK having gained experience of the charts and remembering that each chart is different.

Got my update just now too. I use them with OpenCPN on a MacBook - great for planning while its wet and windy!

I have just updated the Antares Charts onto my laptop and have had a couple of problems. Thankfully with the excellent support from Bob Bradfield and Memory-Map, everything is now OK. On the basis that “fore-warned is fore-armed”, here are the problems and the solutions, just in case anybody else has the same problems.

PROBLEM 1

Firstly, the Memory-Map and Antares Charts is very precise in its wording. So, when you go Map/Digital Map Store and look for “Automatic Download” you have to recognise the instruction,

“To get started, open a suitable basemap for your area. A selection of small-scale maps is included with the application.”

The “Automatic Download” function is only available when you are looking at one of the Memory-Map base maps., (typically the OS 250k Road Atlas), but I bet I am not the first to miss the significance of the word “basemap” and that the option is not available (it is greyed out) if you have one of the Marine charts open.

PROBLEM 2

Having sorted that one out, I downloaded from the Antares Website the small ,MMPKG file. When I tried to open it nothing happened. It asked for a program in a Memory-Map\European Edition folder file, but the current edition of Memory-Map is stored in a Memory-Map\Navigator 6 folder.

An email into Memory-Map Support prompted the following answer in minutes, so I am guessing that it is not an uncommon problem.,

“The issue is that your Windows installation has for some reason associated the .mmpkg file with the old Memory-Map V5 European Edition software rather than the Memory-Map 6 software application.

You can reset the file association by performing the following.......

Right click on the AntaresCharts_2020.mmpkg file and select “Open With”
Press “More Apps”
Scroll to the bottom of the list and select “Look for another app on this PC”
Use the open with interface that will pop-up and navigate to Program Files (x86) > Memory-Map > Navigator-6
Select the file named MMNav and press open”

That solved that problem

I am guessing that the problem is that I first loaded V5 Memory-Map way back in 2012-3 and though I have updated both Windows and Memory-Map since then the old file association link still existed.

Once again, thanks to Bob Bradfield for doing such an excellent job.

I'm very well pleased to note the above and will now update my MM package, and include the Antares folio, too.

Thanks be to the posters/commentators!
