2016 Scuttlebutt Cherbourg Cruise

Just to confirm that I won't be joining. I've used up my main cruising tokens (a month in the Channel Islands) while the GF worked and spent weekends stripping out her cottage for the builders, so I've promised her that weekend for a gentle jaunt.

May the weather gods smile upon us all!

Have PMed you my details but similar to previously

I am not sure of my plans: I have the week before off so may catch a weather window and cross earlier in the week

BUT

Mrs Chubby still not well with a back problem, can`t drive and not very mobile, also youngest who lives at home is off to the canaries with friends.

So if I come it will depend on friends helping Mrs Chubby and also good weather: I know all the sayings about not risking yourself at sea to get home by a set time but can`t afford to get storm bound! Hope the tail end of hurricane Gaston comes and goes by then!

I don't know - I've always done the same as you. Even turning up at the office and saying, "We're somewhere on P, I don't know exactly where" was never a problem.

Are the majority going to radio in and request, or pitch up and berth?

It has always been to pitch up and pick the available berth of your choice.

They run regular rib patrols through the season and will politely knock on your boat for payment card machine in hand if you don't want the bother of going to the office.

I was there on Saturday, we chose to call them up on radio but sensed it was unessecary. That said, the rib came out to meet us and led us to what he considered was the best berth, gave us a goody back with some information and a bag of Magdalenas whilst taking payment. Great great service. It feels to me that Cherbourg has really upped it's game recently.

On subject: I'd love to get involved but don't have a boat or crew. So If anyone needs crew I might well be of use to a first time skipper who would like another set of eyes on the charts.

I was there on Sunday just gone. Just turned up and took the first suitable berth I saw. As usual.

Looking forward to my third meal at L'Equipage in as many months. :encouragement:

Hi, I take it you took in Jersey as well as I saw Angele berthed in the town Marina.

They have turned the dilapidated toilet block off from P pontoon into a bisue café !

We saw them painting the inside etc and the young ladies (we think the future staff) doing it were a big distraction to my crew. Crew no longer want my bacon & eggs and say they are having breakfast there.

Just can't understand it!!

Thanks for info sent. I will issue Ver 1 of spreadsheet next Monday and announce on here. If I have e mail addresses I will also send it to Formites acting as Crew. If you have not received it by next Tuesday I either don't have your e mail or made my usual cock up! Ver 2 , 3 etc follow with corrections/further info as received eg departure port/time.

Re - turning up and just berthing remember to mention when paying (even if people in rib) that you are part of scuttlebutt cruise to get your berthing discount. I don't think they can adjust the amount after payment.

Can anyone offer a berth to clutters (see post above).

Yep. That was me. Finally made it to Jersey on Sunday 21st, after being "galebound" in Braye for 48 hours. Spent a few days catching up with friends and family, before setting off on Saturday.

Okay then, I'll ask "the question" this year: has anyone seen a long range weather forecast?

;);)

From Windfinder Pro App the current forecast weather on Friday 9th for Mid Channel is showing predominantly easterly F3/4, sunny with temps around 19deg C. Predominant wave height of 0.9m from 262deg and a period of 9 secs.
