2013 East Coast and Thames Cruise

Thanks guys.

Just noticed the the on the photo of the plotter as we crossed the meridian the cursor (which is on top of the boat symbol) is on 000 00.00W whereas the vessel position is on 000 00.00E. Bit sad that I spotted it really :)

Very enjoyable report; we did more or less the same trip last summer starting from Ipswich in our Colvic Northerner, so a bit slower. Your photos are superb.

Cheers Richard

We did pretty much the same but had grief getting photo's on here so gave up. We got into St Kats last year, but with that looking unlikely in the future, how did you find Gallions ?

Galleons is not what you would call plush. It sits between an industrial estate and some docklands apartments and the toilets/showers are pretty basic.....I would describe them as what you might find on a small campsite as opposed to the plusher affairs that many modern marinas now have. It didn't worry though us as we used the facilities on the boat.

The location is okay...I wouldn't want to paint a bleak picture but it isn't next to Tower Bridge and all that Central London has to offer. The marina has an eclectic mix of boats with quite a few liveaboards so again, not the shiny offerings that you would find in St Kats. Importantly though, everyone was very friendly and helpful and very interested in a visiting boat. The marina staff were very helpful and reliable......quite the opposite of the tales you hear about St Kats.

Transport links are good with the DLR being a ten minute ish stroll (if you go the right way...the marina office staff will guide you) and there us a Tesco near to the station. Tidal access is probably the best in London so overall, if you just want a base while visiting the capital it is more than suitable and we would visit again.
