If you are abouut to overhaul your head, you are likely to need new copper sleeves for the injectors, I know I did when I did my head. These require to be inserted in the head with special tooling etc, so it has to be done by an authorised dealer, or at least that was the advice I was given when I did mine.
The sleeves do wear and the symptom of this is diesel leaking past the injectors onto the top of the cylinder head and racker cover.
HI Chris
Thanks for your advice, I have just bought the Volvo injector puller, took me a couple of hours modifying it to do the job, not good when you consider it cost me £50, but it does make removing them easier without disturbing the copper sleeves. I had hoped the injectors would have helped my cold starting problems but made no difference to starting at all, a lot less smoke though, and possibly will use less fuel. I am now hopeing the valves need attention which will increase the compression anyway I gues its worth a head gasket.
