2001 Sealine S28 - engine and sterndrive setup

Is that because the throughput is so much higher than for Mercs? (Runs for cover):D

No, it's because they are running a blimmin great UK warehouse with the parts in, rather than having to get them shipped from Belgium, the USA, or wherever else it is that Merc stuff comes from.

I heard the real reason Volvo,s are more popular than any other stern drive , with the boat builders especially this side of the pond ( diesels) .
Is because of the inviocing arrangements with VP and the builder
Vp incentivised the builder by allowing the invoice for the engines/ drives to be paid after the punter bought therefor paid for the boat.
Think about what a positive effect that would do for your cash flow?
Effectively a free loan until cash comes in from customer.
Difficult for yanmar, mercury, Yamaha, to break into this market.
Not a level playing field in terms of Merit
Look at the early D6 DPH ( external steering ram debacle ) , have any of the builders switched engine manufacture ?
No sealine, Fairline , have laid off people - due to the post 2008 issues so the finance director is not going to to to pleased when the tech guys on the factory floor hear the feedback re Volvo and design in another competitor engine / drive set up , that's wipes a large 6 or maybe 7 figure off the balance sheet ,
Who wants to ask the bank for more money against falling sales?
This explains the popularity , not necessarily merit only

There is merit in what you are saying.
