Hi,

Was hoping for some advice on best/easiest to use 2 part paints. Will be painting over epoxy coated ply & will be for external use. Have looked at Epifanes, International, Blakes etc but would welcome some feedback.

thanks

Brian

G'day Brian,

You will have to give the epoxy a light sanding with a 250 grit, just enough to remove the very high gloss.

But make sure you wash it before sanding if new epoxy. You just need a running hose and a plastic kitchen scourer (Scotch-Bright); start at the top and work your way all round then down a section at a time, rub till the water no longer forms beads.

This action will remove the residue and contaminants left by the curing process, if you sand without washing you will only spread the contamination and risk poor adhesion.

After washing and sanding, wipe with white rags and acetone, again working from top down.

Then apply Epoxy high build primer, let it cure and give it light sanding and wash away any dust, allow to dry and you are ready to apply any treatment.

Hope this helps.

Avagoodweekend......
