2 Killed in boating accident

Normally boating is a relatively safe past time.

However, in the last month I think there have been twelve fatalities in four separate incidents.

What can we do to reduce deaths?

In my opinion... Nothing!

I think the education available regarding boating and the availibility of free information is excellent compared to many other pastimes..

The RNLI and Coastguard in my experience have been first class.

Sadly we are all generally responsible for our own safety. If we ignore the risks, we face the consequences..

I'm sorry if that sounds harsh but it really is how it is.

I agree - there is nothing to do.
There is nothing more we can do nor should we try to do more.
Boating in the UK is a very safe sport/pastime and there is every opportunity for those entering it to get the proper information regarding safe boating.
There will always be a few foolhardy people and nothing in the world will change that.

I agree..
I'm no boating expert but from a little simple web browsing and speaking to people i've done the odd course (VHF, crewing etc) and had a visit from the RNLI giving me some very valuable sea safety advice both for me and the boat.

Wasn't rocket science and took very little effort.

I think sadly these events remind us that the sea can be dangerous if you take unnecessary risk and you should respect it.. But we shouldn't over-react! its just a very sad tragedy for those involved and those close to them.
