Hey guys, i really need some opinions quick on this because we are considering looking at it tommorow and its a 1 1/2 hour drive.

Heres the deal, its at a marina, it was a trade in, comes with controls, says its in great shape and runs great, said we could come do a compression test whatever we want.

I wanted to know some opinoons on these motors? Fast? Reliable? Said its force which is made by Mercury?

Need some answers fast thanks guys!

Some luv 'em. Some hate'em. Budget motor at a budget price. Were packaged with Bayliners at one time. If it looks good and looked after and has some "history" with it I'd say go for it. Its a dealer right? Get them to run it up after you've done a comp test. Dunno what the figures should be but make sure they're all reading pretty close. Big difference.....walk.

If its a dealer, see if they'll give a warrenty. Some do on secondhand motors. At the end of the day you malkes your choice and pays your money. How old is it and what do they want for it......in proper money.

edited cos i'm being thick!!! its a '92 motor!! It says so in the title

Re: Crap

what????? oh man thats not what i wanted to hear! What problems did they have? AS i said it was a trade in for a newer motor. They're asking $950 Canadian but i think i could get it for $800. I will bring a buddy with me to help look it over and we will do a compression test... why are they crap?

"Made by Mercury" is abit misleading. Force was a brand started by some firm who bought the Chrysler motor rights and made the Chyryslers with a new name/colour scheme, namely "Force". Then Brunswick bought the company, and Brunswick also own mercury. The Force motors were made under Brunswick ownership for a few years, as a low tech low budget brand. They are not rebadged mercury motors and are inferior mechanically to the merc/Yam class of motor. Most were sold as part of a package bolted to a Brunswick boat eg Bayliner.

So it is a low end motor, needs to be priced accordingly. I dunno the Canada market but frankly Can$800 which is about GBP250 seems about top price for this. You also should check whether spares are available. There are no Force dealers so where you gonna buy spares?

Not only are these not a good bet, there is no actual need to buy one anyway. For your money, buy a real Merc or Yam (even early Yam) 'cos you will be able to afford it and get spares for it.
