further to my previous threads have now been able to confirm details re my evinrude engine 14hp work twin engine..It is a 1983 engine model E14RSLJ.
Apparently I can obtain a service manual from USA but the cost inc posting is very high (£100+?)
does anyone in UK have this manual available .Part no is 394068.
A detailed exploded view of the engine would suffice.

There is this site. You have to register and may have to provide a credit card number ( I didn't register myself but that's what someone on a forum said)) . If you are not happy with that you can't download the files.

I do have a large manual covering Johnson and Evinrude engines of that period but it is at home and I can't get there just now and have no expected time when I can go :(
I've had 2 Johnson 85hp outboards of a similar vintage and was why I got the manual in the first place.

Hi,
the problem I have is that there are websites that can provide manuals for this period but when I check with them my engine is not quoted and they cannot identify\?
No point in paying for a manual that doesnt seem to cover my engine.
Most of the people I have contacted who know evinrude /johnson engines say that they have never heard of a 1983 evinrude 14hp work twin engine
I am beginning to wonder if it was the only one they made,if so might be worth a fortune??????? or have I just wasted my money.

My Johnsons were not in the catalogue either as they were made for the military and the nearest was the Johnson 75hp V4 2 stroke, working on them they seemed identical to what was in the manual and the spares for the 75 fitted without any problems.
They might be de-rated 15hp for commercial use as the leg looks too big to be an uprated 9.9hp

That could be the situation I guess.
Have had engine running fine, goes in gear, has excellent compression, good spark.
Only problem is that not pumping water,no tell tale flow.
I contacted person I bought from and he sent me pics of engine running in tank with water flow.
I wonder if I caused the problem because when I got it I put in tank to run for about 3 min.
I had the water level up to the level of the cavitation plate as had been told but realised after running that water inlet was above the cavitation Plate! See pic
I raised level of water to cover inlet but maybe running it dry for 3 mins wrecked the rubber rotor as no water coming from tell tale
Thats why I need a repair manual to locate pump and check for damage.
What do you think?

I have a Clymer manual that covers (allegedly) all Evinrude/Johnson outboards from 2-40hp between 1973-1990. However, there is no mention of a 14hp unit.

My manual shows that the 9.9hp and 15hp models of all years share the same gearcase.

You may have damaged the impeller blades by running the motor "dry". Probably worth a few minutes of your time to take the gearbox off and check/replace the impeller in any case.

Hi thanks for the info.
I have started to take the lower housing off and notice that the shift rod is connected via 2 bolts one of which can be seen in the pics
the other is just inside the upper casing.
Do both of these bolts need to be removed before the lower casing drops away as I read somewhere that only one bolt should be undone.
