186km/h winds in Corsica at the moment!

Correction, Frank: some (maybe even most) journalists get it wrong, but not journalists per se. A bit like forecasters, to which you might have a particular sensitivity.


I did not see the report, only comments made about it here. My rather general, I admit, point was that journalists do not always get the whole story. In fact, on occasions when I have been near the news, they have got it wrong more than right. Yes, they were correct in saying 186 km/htr but did they make it clear that it was a gust? Did they make it clear that the Cap Corse anemometer is over 100 metres above sea level. Did they make it clear that, in those circumstances, it was not at all unusual? My guess is that a journalistic thought that 186 km/hr was a man bites dog story whereas it is only a dog bites man one.
