1850\'s Thames Yacht builders

Canadian seeks help finding builder or designer of 20 ton yacht "Templar" shipped around the horn on ship "Athelstan" in 1859 to cruise on the coast of British Columbia. Owner was Royal Thames YC member C.E. Barrett-Lennard. Appreciate leads to sources or people enthusiastic about this very early period of yachting.

Re: 1850\'s Thames Yacht builders

Very early; very tricky.

There is only one book on yacht design from this period; it is quite rare.

One possible builder would be Burgoines of Kingston-on-Thames who were yacht builders to HM Queen Victoria. But that is just guessing.

Thanks, I will follow this up. Just found a document claiming Templar was built just before being shipped in September of 1859, and built "in London" which when looking from way over here is a very general term and could mean anywhere near.
