I am looking at purchasing a small yacht with a 14 year old Suzuki DF6 Lk7 outboard which has never been used other than the original PDI check. The engine has been stored in a garage for all this time.
My question is whether the engine will have deteriorated or whether it could be as good as new? Or could there be lots of issues?

ie should I be factoring the cost of a good service and assume some seals etc could need replacing?

Any thoughts and what to look out for?

Thanks

Suzuki 4 stroke carbs can be tempremental ....take your time...use correct size screwdrivers. If any jets are seized...do not try to force them and clean in situ. If it wont tick over dont be tempted to increase tick over to compensate...clutch dogs are quite soft on these and as Vic correctly says change the impeller. Use genuine Suzuki. It will last twice as long

Crosshead screws are Japanese Phillips, but ordinary Phillips is close enough. Pozidriv may cause tears .A tip I was given by a Yamaha motorcycles mechanic was to always tap the driver into the screw with a reasonable whack before attempting to loosen them. (It's quite a satisfying discipline, and certainly seems to work).

Edit - hopefully not relevant to this engine, but if someone's been there and before you and damaged them, tap the screw before you put the driver in as well. The soft head will close up again and give you a better chance.
