12V inflater?

I have the LVM high speed inflator was about £65 - inflates and deflates my 270 airdeck superbly. If the cost fits your pocket the expense is in my view outweighed by the performance

Second the LVM, cracking pump but they dont go high enough for air floors so if you have a high pressure air floor these work great as well.

Could one of you guys with an LVM inflator please tell me how much current they draw. I don't have electric engine start and my electrics are limited to 14 amps max.

According to their website it uses a maximum of 25amps, but as sailorman says it's only for couple of minutes so most batteries would be able to cope. If the 14 amp problem is your wiring or fuses you could always connect direct to the the battery

Sounds like the LVM is out then /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif, but mine is mainly used from the car battery anyway! Pity, it's excellent.

I bought a rechargeable inflator from Halfords for £17 or so. It did what I expected (which was not a great deal) and blew my tender up to a point whereby it was not too difficult for me to finish off with a foot pump on a confined deck. It is easily portable, will recharge off car or mains and has multiple adaptors. I have only used it once so far. I wanted something that did not have to be connected to a power source when I used it. It is not brilliant but not too bad a value for money.

Sorry to be different, but we have one on board (given as a present by a loving wife) and we carefully wired in an appropriate socket (off the electric anchor winch circuit because of the high current).

We don't think it's worth the trouble! Very fast, certainly. Very noisy. So we only use it when loving wife aboard (not often) and at other times just admire the view while we stand and pump with the foot pump.

What's the rush?

I have an LVM, use it regularly and would agree with others that it works well. It is, however, dear. I bought a second, cheap inflator from Millets a few years ago - £8 if I remember right - and I have to say it seems to work about as well. I normally keep it at home and use it every winter to inflate / deflate the dinghy when giving it its annual wash. (Before buying it this job was almost always delayed because I forgot to take the LVM off the boat...) If the LVM packs up I would put the cheapy into front-line service. It does have one advantage over the LVM: it has a normal switch rather than one requiring to be held, so you have two free hands while it is inflating a section to put the cap on the previous valve etc.

One thing to watch: these gadgets can be burnt out if the voltage is high, so it is important that the battery feeding them is not being charged by alternator or shore power at the time.

One more question.
Do these pumps have enough pressure to fully inflate a dinghy or do you have to finish off with a foot pump?
