12v gas solenoid valve wiring?

My existing gas solenoid valve is past its best so I have another I bought some while back but have lost the instructions. Its 12v and has three terminals. One is marked earth. I know the valve is sprung closed when power is removed so Im guessing the other two are positive and negative, but will it do any damage to 'trial and error' it to find out which way round they go?
Also as the boat earth is also the negative, do i need to do anything with the earth terminal at all? Should i leave it disconnected or connect it to the DC negative as well?
I can call the manaufacturers tomorrow but thought someone might be able to help here, sooner!

Doesn't matter which way round. it is only a coil. don't connect the earth.
