12 volt to 24 volt step up converter.

in both cases you need to fit a dc - dc converter. easy to get but you need to know the power requirement of your application. a 24 - 12V converter is very common on 24v boats, I'm sure JFM or other with a recent build will be able to point you in the right direction once you give an idea of power and/or current required. I think mine are made by Alphatronic (but can't check at the moment)
Edit - just checked Alphatronic also do 12 to 24 step up converters too.

Fishy at gaelforcemarine.co.uk have both types, 12 to 24v and 24 to 12v
Edit that's not an email address, fishy posts on here.

we need quite a bit more detail first. Is this just for one low powered instrument or a complete re-wire?

hi kashurst its not a rewire i have been offered a brand new 24volt toilet but the boats all 12volt just need to know if its possible
and the parts are available to do it.
thanks john

thanks everyone for your quick replies, i am thinking of fitting a new electric loo to boat and have been offered a brand new one at a very good price but its 24 volt,so iam trying to find out if its worth the effort thanks.

The loo pump will pull an immense current. Might be worthwhile finding out how much a 12 v pump motor will cost, as I assume there will be no other electronics of any sort involved. This could be cheaper than installing a fairly hefty DC-DC convertor.

yes just looked it up 25amp max load.

hi guys, does not seem such a bargin now just looked up the cost for 30 amp dc-dc convertor £289. cheaper to buy new 12 volt one ,oh well things you have to do to keep the boss happy cheers john.

Hi Guys looking to go from 12 volts up to 24 any ideas what to use and where to get from

thanks john.

I use a number of Alphatronix converters on Play d'eau - but do be aware that many converters, including Alphatronix, output more than the stated voltage. This because the standard converters are often used as battery chargers. For some of my kit I needed an accurate 12v or 24v. I called Alphatronix and for the same money, they produced converters for me that were accurate at either 12v or 24v. This made a difference where I was suing LED lighting, for example.
