12 foot nesting duck punt

Those flat bottomed hulls must be very quick to put together.
I certainly like the idea of a tender I could (almost) knock up in a weekend.

But that flat bottom must make it skid worse than an inflatable.
I would probably go for an extra chine down the middle, but recognise that adds built time.

In terms of the nesting thing. The extra bulkheads and strong points for bolts will add to the weight a fair bit.
For me Id rather it was light enough to get on the roof rack rather than small enough to get in the car itself. But that is just me.

You sail it cocked over on one side, digging the 90º chine deep into the water. Dylan's made loads of videos of his punt which is exactly the same shape, seems to sail very nicely.

Indeed. They look like a fun sail on a calm day in sheltered waters.
Surely half way to a capsize on a blustery day though?
I played around with canoe sailing last season and found it pretty hairy. But I admit I've never tried a duck punt.
Its a rowing dinghy I need so my comments were in reference to that.

they are **** in any sort of chop

however, strong wind is no problem because you can dump the wind so easily and because you have 14 stone lieing in the bottom of a flat boat so very stable.

They are designed for sneaking up rivers and tidal inlets.

they are though,a treat to sail

...sneaking up rivers and tidal inlets.

This, I love!
Creeping up a solitary creek seeing what most people don't.
Miles away from car noise.
My canoeing over recent years has exposed my kids to nature and water, in relatively safety, from a young age.
Now they are older I am focused on bigger boats and more open water. But I love the simplicity of just chucking a small hull into the water and going!
I can see myself building a dingy, similar to the punt, but with an extra chine and more beam as a tender and a boat to teach the kids to sail.

Cheers
