Hi all, I need a piece of 10mm marine ply approx 8" x 24" (excuse mixed units). Where could i get a suitable offcut. (cheap)

I am no expert, but I was stunned at the variable quality of marine ply when I bought from different places. So I think you need to be clear what you mean by marine ply? A builders merchant or BQ will probably sell something so called, but a true specialist local timber merchant might be able to help. Question is, do you think your local merchant is likely to bother specialising in proper "marine" ply ?
It aint cheap, is all I can say. And some of it was no better than shuttering for concrete.
But maybe you mean external ply, as opposed to internal ply ?
Oddly, the best I got was 100 miles from the sea !

Well I'm certainly a long way from the sea. I'm going to try my sailing pals for an offcut or two. Its for my rudder so don't want any delaminating.

Drive to a marina/boatyard. Find the skips. Rummage for a bit. Go home with what you wanted.

8' x 2' is half a sheet - I doubt you'll get a timber merchant to regard this as an offcut to be sold cheap!
FWIW, our local reputable builders merchant (Ridgeons) sells marine ply with all the right BS marks, and having worked with it, it appears to be what it says on the can. It's a LOT cheaper than marine suppliers like Robbins (especially if you take into account Robbins swingeing delivery charges), but lacks the decorative surface veneers; the grain pattern is bland and the finish is a white wood. But look for BS 1088 stamped on every sheet. However, there do appear to be disreputable suppliers out there who provide timber marked inappropriately; a search for 1088 on this forum will tell you of people's varying experience.

- but thanks from me for the useful info on standards, anyway.I see you're in Shropshire. What about a canal boat builder I wonder? But perhaps you've tried that route.
