What I have learnt…
When I arrived on this site, I was already an avid reader of all matters boating. Had a few RYA quals but no boat , primarily due to lack of cash, an uninterested SWMBO ,little recreation time due to a demanding new job and sod all experience. A true learner. So, what have I learnt? -
1. I learnt quickly that insults were the order of the day – not much fun here till you understand the ‘humour’
2. I learnt that bogs explode
3. I learnt that real boaties think Sunseekers are for wimps and Mancunian wooftahs
4. I learnt that you could lose lots of the working day reading the crap here.
5. I learnt that Magellan is better than Garmin
6. I learnt that Volvo are not very good at marketing (still unproven that their engines are crap)
7. I learnt that there are some northerners who can spell – and then there is Haydn
8. I learnt that I could teach Alan Priddy something about navigation
9. I learnt that MBY hacks know loads more about boats than they do about aviation prices (although I’m also learning that some aviation people think they can teach sailors about safety….wrong)
10. I learnt where Wareham is
11. I learnt how to buy a berth…and did it
12. I learnt that the rules around pleasure boating and registration are Dickensian
13. I learnt that I know a lot about hiring boats
14. I learnt that I am not the only person who has nearly destroyed a fuel pontoon by ramming it.
15. I learnt how to get free rides on all the most modern craft at Boat Shows
16. I learnt that drinking with TCM can lead to hospital visits for knackered knees
17. I learnt that boating can be expensive
18. I learnt that Boat brokers are the pits (IMHO)
19. I learnt invisible writing
20. I learnt hat boat buying is a tedious business
21. I learnt that there are loads of other nutters out there …
